Blanketing the North
2006, October 27th:

The 2007 Canada Winter Games Torch Relay continues throughout Canada’s north.

Most recently, the Nunavut torch completed a second torch relay challenge. The torch began near Baker Lake, NU and traveled by snowmobile on the arctic tundra to the Geographic Centre of Canada. This is just one of many torch events that made for a busy October in Nunavut. The torch also visited Chesterfield, Coral Harbour, Repulse Bay and Rankin Inlet.

The Northwest Territories and Yukon torches also had an eventful month in October. The NWT torch made a stop in Lutsel k’e while the Yukon torch visited Watson Lake and Upper Liard.

The three Canada Games Torches will be reunited at the 2007 Canada Winter Games Opening Ceremonies on February 23, 2007. In all, the three torches will have visited 83 communities, traveled over 100,000 km and have completed two unique challenges in their respective territories.
