It was a busy first morning of competition for the country’s badminton players.

First-round play saw Nova Scotia, Saskatchewan and Alberta lead in single female competition; with the second round giving Ontario, Quebec and British Columbia players two wins apiece. Newfoundland also took two but had to fight to the end to claim the win. Single match wins went to Saskatchewan, Prince Edward Island, and New Brunswick.

In men’s single first round play, Newfoundland and PEI finished all three sets before PEI claimed the win. Saskatchewan men picked up three wins; Manitoba two and Quebec and Newfoundland had a single each.

Doubles plan for men, women and mixed was to start this afternoon.
