Northern Athletes Get in the Games
2007, February 13th:

It’s time for to get excited about the Canada Winter Games. Athletes from each of Canada’s three territories participated in a southern Ontario media tour this past week to raise awareness about the national sporting event set to take place in Whitehorse from February 23 to March 10.

Michael Putulik (Nunavut, Badminton), Jill Gilday (NWT, Short Track Speed Skating) and Jeremiah Kitchen (Yukon, Biathlon) traveled to Toronto to speak with national media about the Games, life in the North and hosting Canada’s best amateur athletes north of 60.

The athletes were interviewed live on CTV’s AM and also had interviews with the Globe and Mail, the Canadian Press and the Aboriginal People’s Television Network.

The media tour was coordinated through the National Marketing Campaign, a partnership between the three Territorial governments and the 2007 Canada Winter Games Host Society. The campaign is promoting tourism and economic development in Canada’s North.
