2010 Olympic organizers join in 2007 Games celebrations
2007, January 10th:
The Vancouver Olympic and Paralympic Organizing committee (VANOC) visited Whitehorse this week, to observe the city’s preparations for the 2007 Canada Winter Games.
“We are very happy to welcome VANOC to Whitehorse,” said Piers McDonald, President 2007 Canada Winter Games. “We are proud of all the work we have done to get ready for our Games and hope we can pass on some of our experiences to them.”
They participated in a torch relay event at Elijah Smith Elementary School, and enjoyed a traditional lunch at the Nakwataku Potlatch House. The contingent also visited the Yukon Artists at Work Gallery, toured the Athletes’ Village and the Canada Games Centre and met with the staff and volunteers of the 2007 Canada Winter Games host society.
This VANOC visit to Whitehorse is part of a pan north tour which includes plans to visit all three territories. From Whitehorse the tour will continue to Yellowknife, NWT and Kugluktuk, NU.
