The Canada Games will be two busy weeks in Whitehorse, and the city will see a large increase in traffic as a result. The City of Whitehorse and the Canada Games Host Society have a plan to get people to and from venues with no fuss.
The City of Whitehorse has committed to provide exceptional transit service during Games-time. To ensure volunteers and spectators will be able to get to and from Games events, the City of Whitehorse will make several additional busses available to the City Transit system. This will also minimize traffic and parking congestion. Games-time bus routes are being planned to coincide with Games programs and activities that are set to take place from February 23 to March 10, 2007.
“The City of Whitehorse is proud to unveil yet another way we are supporting the first Games north of 60,” says Mayor Bev Buckway. “The existing and new buses will be available at Games-time for spectators and more than 4,000 volunteers. The addition of several buses to City Transit will also be a lasting legacy in Whitehorse for many years to come.”
Volunteers wearing their Official volunteer uniforms will be able to use city transit free of charge. The City of Whitehorse is also working with the Host Society to market a special commemorative Games-time transit pass. This will make a great memento from the Games. Regular bus passes will still be valid.
During the Games, all spectators and volunteers can avoid the traffic and the hassle of finding a parking spot. Whitehorse’s city transit system has your Games-time transportation needs covered.
