The Friends of the Games local sponsorship program is now well on its way to reaching its $2 million goal. The sponsorships are all value-in-kind and are instrumental in providing the Games with a variety of services.
“The Canada Games is about more than sports,” said Bob Baxter of the Yukon Brewing Company. “Of course, athletes will leave talking about their performance. But if they also leave talking about the Yukon and the North, we’ve all done our jobs. We are pumped about the opportunity to be involved.” The Yukon Brewing Company will provide beverages at several lounge venues throughout the Games.
The Best Western Gold Rush Inn is the designated media hotel for the Games as well as the principal Games Media Centre. “The Canada Winter Games are an exciting way to showcase Whitehorse and the North,” said Dikran Zabunyan, general manager for the Gold Rush Inn. “The media are the eyes and ears for the rest of Canada during the Games. We are extremely pleased to offer them a welcoming and comfortable place to stay and work during the Games.”
Listers Motor Sports is donating snow machines, helmets and skimmers for use at the various outdoor venues. “The Canada Winter Games are a truly unique challenge for Canada’s young athletes,” said Brian Edleman. “Listers has operated in the Yukon for more than 40 years and we are excited to offer the
Games reliable equipment for their winter venues.”
The announcement was made during a barbecue and celebration for the Canada Games Host Society Headquarters.
