2006, April 18th:
The Canada Games has a long tradition of developing athletes for the Olympic stage.

On March 30th, 2006 Cassie Campbell, captain of the Olympic gold medal winning Canadian woman’s hockey team was on hand to announce the sponsorship of the ATCO Group with the 2007 Canada Games. “If it wasn’t for the Canada Games I may have quit sports all together,” said Campbell who shared her Canada Games and Olympic experiences with quests in the ATCO Centre at Canadian Olympic Park in Calgary, Alberta.


“The commitment and skills of ATCO will help us stage exceptional events and showcase the North to the rest of Canada,” said Piers McDonald, President of the Games Society.

ATCO will supply modular units to sport venue sites, electrical service to power the action, security at the Athletes Village and laptop and desktop computers to keep the information flowing smoothly when the 2007 Canada Winter Games are held for the first time “North of 60” in Whitehorse.

On April 1st, 2006 Catriona Le May Doan, decorated Canadian Olympic athlete in speed skating was in Whitehorse to help announce Bell’s sponsorship contribution to the 2007 Canada Games. Catriona gave an inspiring speech about how the Canada Games helped her achieve her dreams. “The Games are less than a year away and are going to be a great success.”


“Bell Canada is pleased to sponsor the Canada Winter Games, an important competition
for our nation’s high performance athletes,” said Steve Lake, Chief Operating Officer.

The Bell sponsorship will include a financial contribution, cellular phones and service,
