Oh, what a beautiful day, I’ve got a beautiful feeling…
2007, March 10th:
Thursday, Day 14 was a big day for Ontario figure skaters Kirsten Moore-Towers and Andrei Rogozine, each picking up a gold in the novice singles event.
Kirsten’s goal was to skate two clean programs, and she did just that. She was first after the short program, and the choreography and music of the free skate showcased her considerable skill and artistry. This stunning performance energized the audience, and earned her a total score of 100.93.
Rika Inoda (BC), 7th after the short program, skated a solid free skate with fast spins and good footwork to win silver with a total score of 85.85. Close behind was Vanessa Grenier of Quebec with 85.39 points.
Coming from behind in 6th place after the short program, Andrei captured the gold (total score: 90.72) with a dynamic, lively free skate chock full of triple jumps, well executed combinations, and fancy footwork.
Right behind in second place with a total score of 90.42 was Louis-Philippe Sirois (Quebec) who skated beautifully to a medley of old favourites, Brandon Prete (SK) roused the crowds, skating solidly for the bronze.
