Women's Hockey
2007, March 9th:
PEI out-shot Newfoundland and Labrador 34 to 26, but it was the Rock’s Amanda Kean who opened scoring on the second day of women’s preliminary hockey at Takhini Arena, 50 seconds into the first period, followed by an assist at 9:16 and a seven-minute goal in the second.

Concurrently, at the Games Centre, New Brunswick bested Alberta in an overtime shoot-out. Team New Brunswick goalie Melissa Murphy deflected 80 shots, compared to the 22 hits Alberta’s Kanesa Schwez took in net. At the end of the third, Team New Brunswick shooter Kayla Blackmore put the puck past Schwez to break the 2-all tie.

In an afternoon match-up, Nova Scotia washed over NWT with nine goals in 65 attempts. Although NWT only played for the net 10 times, three of those shots hit home for the territory. Late in the second period, the Taylor-Paynes, Lacey and Brooke, teamed up with Alyssa Carpenter for Team NWT’s first goal. Teammates Brooke Harris and Chloe Smith found their opening at 15:06 and 5:59 in the third.

In evening action, British Columbia shut us out of our own house 14-0. Jennie Gallo scored two of Team BC’s nine first-period goals. Team Yukon rallied and kept everything out of the net in the second, except Braidie Campbell’s 5:54 goal. Gallo scored her third in the third and teammates Chelsea Laing, Erica Kromm and Ling-Ling Lok got their points in before the buzzer at Takhini Arena.
